Q-SYS Core Swap Instructions

Saving Current Configuration

  1. Load Q-SYS Designer, connect to your current Core.
  2. Go to Q-SYS Core Manager and write down the name of your Core and the network configuration (IP addresses, subnets, gateways) it's currently using - we'll need to put these in the new Core.
  3. Go to File > Disconnect and wait for it to disconnect fully.
  4. Save the file to your computer under File > Save As. Label it to clearly indicate this is our backup file.

Setting Up New Core

  1. Plug your computer directly into LAN A or B of the new Core and set your computer to DHCP so it can reach the Core.
  2. Open QSYS Designer and click on Configurator (wrench/cog symbol) at the top of Designer. You should see the Core listed there under devices.
  3. Label the Core the same as your old Core by using the Edit button to the right.
  4. On that same page, change the network settings to match the old core.

Getting Up & Running

  1. Once that is all setup and saved to the Core, you should be able to plug the Core back into your existing network.
  2. Back at your computer, open the latest file, and hit Load to Core. Because the name of the Core and IP addresses match your old core, it should write to the Core and boot right up.
Here's QSC's documentation on the setup if that provides more clarity.

**Note on Firmware Versions**

  • Although you may be running an older version of Q-SYS Designer, most devices that get repaired come back with the newest firmware version on them.
  • This forces us to move ahead to the newest Q-SYS Designer version and update the rest of the devices with it.
